Career and Technical Education (CTE) Course Description
Candidates for this class and certification will be able to analyze and write syntactically correct HTML and CSS, structure data using HTML elements, and create and apply styles using CSS to create their own websites. Students will be familiar with their features and capabilities, and understand how to write, debug, and maintain well-formed HTML and CSS code.
Students will have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments by participating in Business Professionals of America (BPA) Competitions. It is a “hand-on” class and much of the work is completed independently.

- Information Technology Specialist: HTML and CSS (Certiport)
Required (BPA contest 415 - Fundamentals of Web Design - Free testing at NLC)
Certification Test Total Points: 1000
Certification Test Passing Points: 700
Certification Test Attempts: 5
- IT Specialist exam retake policy:
If a candidate does not achieve a passing score on an exam the first time, the candidate must wait 24 hours before retaking the exam.
If a candidate does not achieve a passing score the second time, the candidate must wait seven days before retaking the exam a third time.
A seven-day waiting period is imposed between each subsequent exam retake.
A candidate may not take a given exam any more than five times per year (12 months). This 12-month period starts from the first attempt. The candidate is then eligible to retake the exam 12 months from the date of the first attempt.
If a candidate achieves a passing score on an IT Specialist exam, the candidate cannot take it again.
Articulation
- Language Other Than English: The second credit can be substituted with CTE program completion
- Physical Education & Health: PE/Health credit can be substituted with additional CTE program completion
- Science: One credit of Physics or Chemistry can be substituted with CTE program completion
- Social Studies: One credit of Social Studies (except Govt) can be substituted with additional CTE program completion
- Visual, Performing, and Applied Arts: Credit can be substituted with CTE program completion
